‘Hermione’ and ‘Casper’ - A Sorry Tail
My Bank Holiday Monday started with a message on my answer machine “I am SO SORRY but I have just left two cats on your doorstep – I didn’t know what else to do, but I know you will look after them.” The phone number was withheld. Panic overtook me almost instantly!! My choice words of late seem to be ’I will try and think of something!’
‘Hermione’ and ‘Casper’ were very stressed when first retrieved from my doorstep - hopefully they had not been there for long – but their eyes and faces said it all…
We had reached saturation point before these poor cats even arrived. We have no idea what part of the Island they have came from, so we could well home them close to where they have been living without realising – not a good prospect for the cats obviously.
Maybe if the person concerned looks at our website she may ring with that information.
I have recently written a page on the ‘Cat Crisis’ and there is little I can add to that really. The situation we have been faced with today though is particularly worrying – what can we do when we have nowhere to house these poor creatures?
WHEN will people REALIZE that they are CAUSING and
adding to the CAT CRISIS – there are NOT enough caring, genuine families for all these homeless and unwanted animals. Yet the solution is SO simple - we are here to help with our Special Neutering Scheme, so there really is NO reason why pet owners can’t get their animals doctored and in turn help to prevent any more suffering, neglect and abandonment.
We now have 32 rescue cats and kittens – in over 31 years of we have NEVER housed this many at any one time – WE CAN’T TAKE ANY MORE until we have homed some of those already in care. Pet owners need to take responsibility for their pets and they need to STOP PRODUCING MORE UNWANTED KITTENS.
We would like to Thank Chris and Alan for introducing us to Judy, who has very kindly offered ‘Hermione’ and ‘Casper’ sanctuary in her home on a temporary fostering basis.
