Short Term Fostering
Can YOU Offer A Short Term Foster Home – And In Turn Help A Cat Or Kitten In Need?
The demand to take cats and kittens into care is increasing, and where we only have limited space, we do have to let some people and the cats down, purely because we have nowhere to accomadate them.
It would really help us if we had more devoted ‘cat people’ to foster one or two of our needy cats, on a short term basis. This would then enable us to remove them from the situation they are in, and in turn prepare them for a new home.
When the animals come into our care they are automatically health checked by our Vet and tested for feline leukemia and feline aids. In the case of older cats other blood tests are carried out to check everything is functioning normally. If anything is highlighted in any of these tests then relevant treatment is commenced.
Neutering and Spaying is also one of our main priorities, and if the cat is a stray we will wait 7-10 days before carrying out any obtrusive procedures or operations etc.
Some, not necessarily just elderly cats, may need dental treatment, in fact whatever they need to bring them up to a good standard of health we endeavor to do prior to homing. All are also vaccinated and microchipped – very young kittens though are microchipped when they are spayed/neutered through us at 5 – 6 months of age.
If you feel you would like to find out more about fostering please do not hesitate to call us. Our main requirements are that the cat/s kittens/s are kept indoors at all times, and if it is preferred can be kept to one room only during their stay. We would also ask that they do not contact any other cats during the time they are with you. It also goes without saying that you spend as much time as possible with them, and that they are kept warm (cool in the summer!!) clean, are fed at regular times and are kept entertained!!
We will provide all the food and cat litter, and obviously pay for any Veterinary treatment whilst in your care and while they wait for a new home or a long term foster home.
We would like to help as many cats and kittens as we can, and with your help we can obviously achieve more, and turn their sad tales into happy ‘tails.’
